Joel,
You pegged it. You hit Shelby right where she lives. She seeks followers and her desire is to be looked up to as some 'spiritual guru' who claims to be in touch with Jesus, like any other cultist claims to be.
Bravo!

The end is nigh?
by ozziepost in09:12 aedst thu 22 nov 2001 .
bin laden orders own execution.
afp - suspected terrorist mastermind osama bin laden, hunted by us forces and running out of sanctuaries following the collapse of the taliban regime, has reportedly ordered his own execution if his capture appears imminent.. "bin laden has informed a number of people close and dedicated to him that he was living his last weeks or days," the riyadh-based al-watan newspaper said, quoting unnamed us and european diplomats in paris.. "so bin laden has instructed those aides who remain with him until the end to shoot him if he is surrounded by us special forces or the northern alliance, and there is no escape," the arabic daily said, adding that he had "even asked one of his sons to shoot him".. the taliban said it had lost contact with bin laden during its dramatic withdrawal from the north over the past two weeks, and claimed there was no sign of him in the "three or four" provinces under its control.. "we have no idea of where he is because you see our areas are limited to three or four provinces, so we no longer know where he is," spokesman syed tayyab agha told reporters in the southern border town of spin boldak.. "there is no relation now.

It looks like you are right, Ozzie. Methinks that the El Quada foreigners, who so oppressed the Afghani's (including Bin Laden), are going to be executed in the field or given up for U.S. Military tribunals. They have all reaped the whirlwind and stories about them executing Afghanis who want to surrender are going to cause their own deaths. We used to think that the Sunnis were tame and the Shiites the violent muslims. Isn't it ironic that such a peaceful religion can harbor two groups who hate each other and everyone else (except when they want something from you)?

The Unforgivable Sin
by expatbrit inone of those phrases that jw's always seem to (amusingly) lower their voices when saying is "the unforgivable sin".
this is defined as, i believe, grieving the holy spirit.. when i was a witness, it was generally assumed that adolf hitler had committed the unforgivable sin.
presumably because he wasn't taken in with the wt's brown-nosing of the nazis.

Christendom basically has it right!
by Amazing ini saw yadirf's post (formerly friday on h20) barking about how christendom still has it all wrong regarding the trinity, immortal soul, all going to heaven, hellfire, jesus dying on a stake and not a cross, etc.. it is obvious that such people as yadirf have never visited a regular mainline church or he would not make such absurd claims, the very same idiotic claims touted by the watch tower lying and deceit society.. most christians and christian theologians do profess the trinity, in varied forms, but it is not a matter of salvation to accept it.
likewise for the soul, hell, the cross, etc.. genuine everyday christians are far more concerned about living a christian life, doing good, and following jesus.
they do witness, though informally as the spirit moves them ... which is a far more caring, considerate, and successful method then the watch tower door-to-door system.

Hi Richard,
I am really surprised that you have not encountered valid, scriptural exgesis and hermaeutics. JW single scripture exgesis does not make for any contradiction in Biblical teachings. JWs cannot prove anything, except what they happen to agree with orthodox Christianity on. Richard, if you take Randy Watter's, Jeff Schwenn or Ron Rhodes works on the doctrinal comparisons you will see that protestantism can prove it's doctrines of salvation, trinity, immortal soul and a literal hell by 'sola scriptura'.
JWs (and other cults) do not let scripture interpret scripture and they constantly twist context, so how in the world you can say they can prove anything is beyond me.http://www.watchman.org/jw/answers.htm Answering Watchtower Objections

Will they turn on religions soon?
by Seeker ini was talking with a jw a few days ago, and he said that current events (natch) convinced him more than ever that soon the nations will turn on religion, and the great tribulation will begin.
he said that the current hatred felt toward islamic extremists, plus columnists pointing out christian extremists (i.e.
abortion clinic bombers) are also dangerous, mean that soon the tide will turn and all religion will be viewed as bad.. i responded that although extremists are hated, i've been amazed at how carefully the governments have differentiated between extremists and muslims in general.

I see your head is still firmly stuck in the sand regarding the muslim religion and the huge difference between those teachings and Christ's. You really need to study up on just what the Koran teaches, and recognize that Mohammed was a caravan robber who converted people by force during HIS OWN LIFETIME. His 'apostles' killed each other or his spoils after HE died of poisoning.
Still, all of that aside I am much agreed that the average muslim (who is not faithful to the whole of the koran) is one who is easy to live next to. America is showing some real signs of a revival that may be of the scale seen in the 1830's, when it led to jails and bars being practically emptied and the churches filled. The rest of the world is in revival and one of the problems in the muslim world is the pure gospel message freeing more and more from spiritual bondage.
How telling it is that most muslims are ruled by despots whereas Christians are living in and encouraging democracies and republics!
Did you know that 30,000 chinese are converted each day? Chinese each memorize at least one page of scripture so they don't need the banned Bibles. Each one brought in is painstaklingly taken apart page by page and given to each Christian.
Christian missionaries work in medicine, schools and as 'tourists' where the Bible is banned. Did you know that some Hindu countries are particularly vile in their persecution of Christianity?

Isn't it ironic that the untactful message that they do preach is an embarrassment to them? This is their false gospel but with no weasel words and deceit to hide what they are preaching. That sticker is not unlike a Jack Chick tract but without the zany cartoons. ;-)
Even us evangelicals shake our heads at those who use those tracts. None who are truly drawn by God to salvation need that sort of thing. It is the love a God who would live as we do and die for us that brings us to salvation.

Question for any Bible Believer????????
by JT into any bible believer- how would you answer this question- .
below is how jw answer it:.
is it really any wonder that evil and suffering exist?.

The 'dubs have some truth in their explanation but they try to rationalize instead of use a scriptural interpretation. Actually, NOT simply getting rid of the original pair is a form of grace. No, don't tell me you would have done any better in their place.
God has mercy on whom He has mercy. He is sovereign, He is holy, He's given the elect an 'out' and we don't know the standards. It's been predestined. Didn't you study Romans, Galations, Phillipians and Ephesians when you were a high and mighty elder?
He is "I am" and we, "are not". Without Him we don't exist in the first place. Do you want it really logical and well-reasoned?
"Mere Christianity" & "Miracles" by C. S. Lewis are a good start and "Evidence That Demands a Verdict 1 & 2" will help you see the history clearer.
Why am I blunt? SOME keep asking the same type questions over and over, thinking they have it all figured out, secure in their self-centered worlds, yet just as lost as they were as a JW.

Sorry TJ, you are dead wrong.
Jesus is telling His disciples that they themselves will be subject to strained family relations, persecution and even martyrdom. He is laying it on the line and they are told that they must be willing to endure such things.
Following God in a fallen world is never easy. He goes on to show that the 'elect' must love God, even giving up loved ones if THEY will not accept the personal decision of the believer. Indeed, the price for eternal life is to give over all things (physical, material, spiritual) that keep us from serving our Lord fully. There is no reference to shunning. Can the passage be twisted? Of course!
The context of this passage shows clearly that there is no 'cheap grace', as some critics say of the Biblical teaching that, salvation is by grace through faith alone and not works. You receive salvation because you are of the elect and then your works are a proof of your saving grace.
You really need to go beyond single scripture interpretation and look at the whole context. I know that is not easy, coming from where we come from.

That's right, Ballistic, some people don't like me being here because I am a thorn in their side. I remind them they cannot always get away with offensiveness without being called to account. Whatever else happens, I stand on what I believe. How telling that you did not respond to me as a real person, but as an opponent who is nothing more than typed words.
Yep, I posted after and how many of us saw what was there before?Rex
